Fisherman catches giant squid measuring eight feet
Calamari was on the menu all week for these villagers after a local fisherman caught an eight-foot-long (2.4 metres) giant squid.
The enormous marine creature was hauled ashore on Friday morning at around 9am local time in the remote island region of Tawi-tawi, Philippines.
Dozens of stunned residents crowded round the bright white squid - measuring 18 inches wide - as it lay on the ground in the remote coastal village.
A tape measured stretched out over the creature shows it to be just over 8ft long - the biggest the region has ever seen.
Harold Eduardo Curtis, a fisherman on the island who saw the squid, said: ''I know the fisherman who caught this squid. It was hard for him to bring it in because of the weight.
''The beautiful feature of this squid was how clean it was, how bright and white. It was a very healthy squid and still young. The meat will taste very good.
''This is the biggest I have ever seen caught here. It looks like it is from a family of large squid, so there will be more out in the ocean of this size and maybe even bigger.''

Man dies after being shot by police in Portland
Police officers shot and killed a man during an encounter at a Southeast Portland homeless shelter Sunday evening. Police said the man had crashed a stolen car nearby minutes earlier.
Police found the man they believed to be the driver nearby around 8 p.m. During their encounter, Burley said, multiple officers fired at the man, who died.
No officers or bystanders were injured. Burley said there were many witnesses, however, who were being interviewed late Saturday.
As police responded to the crash, they received reports the man might be armed, Burley said, but he said it was still unclear if he was armed at the time of the shooting.
It was also unclear if the man killed was involved in the earlier carjacking. Burley said the man had not been identified.
Witnesses said the shooting occurred at a long-term and emergency homeless shelter operated by Cityteam Ministries. There was no evidence the man was associated with the shelter.

At least 70 dead after suspected gas attack in Syria
At least 70 people have died in a suspected gas attack on a rebel-held town in eastern Ghouta according to rescue services and medics. The reports cannot be independently verified and the Syrian government has denied the use of chemical weapons.
The U.S. State Department says reports of mass casualties from an alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma were "horrifying" and would, if confirmed, "demand an immediate response by the international community".
Volunteer rescue force the White Helmets shared graphic videos on social media showing people washing themselves after the attack. It says the number dead is likely to rise.

Brazil's Lula surrenders to police, begins 12-year sentence
Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva turned himself in to police ending a dramatic standoff on Saturday.
Lula was seen leaving the union building where he had sought refuge while defying a court deadline to surrender to police.
The former president was taken to a jail cell in the southern city of Curitiba, where he will serve his 12-year sentence for corruption.
On Thursday, the country's top court, ruled against his petition to remain free while he continued to appeal his conviction.
The conviction against Lula stems from an anti-corruption investigation which has engulfed dozens of top politicians from several parties in Brazil.
Lula was convicted of trading favours with a construction company in exchange for a beachfront apartment last year. The former president has denied any wrongdoing in that case and other corruption cases not tried yet.
